Pollution in Islamabad
Green
Press's field investigation team prepared a report on the hazardous
substances emitted by pollutant factories in Industrial Area of lslamabad
and raised the issue in media.
Based
upon Green Press's coverage a resident of Islamabad Industrial area
embarked on Public Interest Litigation in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Apex court in 1998 directed the Capital Development Authority
to either change the trade of these pollutant industries or shift
them away from residential area.

Initiated a series of lectures," Development Forum" on
environmental and sustainable development themes.

Campaigned to solicit public support for country's first-ever Green
operation in Bani Gala (an illegal habitat in Margalla Hills National
Park, polluting Rawal Lake, which supplies drinking water to 1.5
million people in Rawalpindi / lslamabad). The members of Green
Press followed the litigation between the Capital Development Authority
and the residents of Bani Gala and exposed the weaknesses of country's
legal system, which at the end of day favoured a few powerful residents
of the elite locality and did not bother to preserve drinking water
reservoir.

Monitored a pilot project to check vehicular emissions on Murree
Road, Rawalpindi in collaboration with the Federal Environment Protection
Agency.

President Green Press, Mr. Zafarullah Khan joined the US based Global
Response International Advisory Board (GRIAB) as a representative
from Asia for three years term (1992-1995).
