Campaign to activate Pakistan Environment Protection Council

Launched a media campaign to exert pressure on officials to convene the first ever meeting of Pakistan Environment Protection Council (PEPC), which had never met since its creation in 1983.

The media reports highlighted the significance of the PEPC, as country's supreme body to ensure implementation of environment related laws and policies.

  • a series of media reports warned the authorities in Pakistan about possible water-shock in 1993, which caused incidents of water riots/deaths in 1994.
  • arranged Environment Mela in lslamabad to celebrate World Environment Day.
  • participated in fire-fighting efforts in Margaila Hills, apart from raising voice against the annual ritual of smoke and fire which destroys hill pla ntations.
  • created media support for the Capital Development Authority (CDA)'s action against stone crushers in Margalla Hills National Park.
